NOMENCLATURE
NOMENCLATURE
is the science of naming things in the world of Science and the Arts. Carl Linnaeus was a Swedish botanist in the 17 century who is credited with inventing binomial nomenclature, which is a two term naming system, eg. Genus and species. The convention goes that the Genus is spelt using an uppercase G and the species with a lowercase s, eg. Homo sapiens.
This system allows us to unify the names of all living things globally. So instead of having a locally common name for something you now have a globally recognised way of naming anything. It proved to be such a good way to classify things it is still in use today and can be seen in some of the common household food items we use everyday.
We hope you will enjoy and have a better visualised understanding of Nomenclature through our colourful illustrations of small little things from our daily lives.
